Thomas Lorenz, make-up artist

A native Austrian and now a Paris-based makeup artist, I transitioned from law school to the world of makeup artistry. This may come as a surprise to some, but I think my journey therefore has been routed in resilience, a very open mind and a real love for my art and craft. While largely self-taught, I have been fortunate to assist luminaries like make-up artists and beauty consultants Pat McGrath, Dick Page, and my ultimate idol, Aaron de Mey. My earliest inspiration stems from watching my mother apply her make-up. Not to mention, Vogue magazines gifted by my stylish aunt further fueled my passion for makeup editorials. To me personally, make-up is incredibly transformative – it empowers, narrates stories, and instills confidence. I've always been captivated by the powerful portrayal of women in Pedro Almodóvar films, particularly how red lipstick can symbolize strength. I would say my approach is rather intuitive, I can find inspiration anywhere in the spontaneous every day and my signature style revolves around radiant, pure skin. I don’t like to be limited by a set of rules. Lipstick as eyeshadow, eyeshadows as lipstick, I cherish freedom of creativity. Some of the highlight of my career include orchestrating the makeup for the show of Leonard Paris and collaborating with Vanessa Beecroft for Vogue Ukraine's cover shoot in Venice. I feel they are a testament to my adaptability and skill.’
